The Doctors

Dr Charles Shlosberg

(MBBS MRCP DRCOG DCH) has been based in the Littlehampton/Rustington area since 1995, after previous extensive training in the care of the elderly. Dr Shlosberg is available on most days, and is able to deliver the continuous and personal care which for many years was the accepted hallmark of good general practice.

He accepts patients onto his list who live within the postcode areas BN16 and BN17.

Dr Shlosberg is helped by Dr Bojarowska and Dr Mayhew.

Dr Agnieszka Bojarowska

(MRCGP MFFLM DRCOG DFFP DCH DFMS) qualified in 1998 from Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland. Before working in general practice, she trained in psychiatry including dynamic psychotherapy. She has special interests in women’s health and family planning.

Dr Jeremy Mayhew

(MB ChB MRCGP MFFLM DCH Dip IMC RCS Ed DFMS) qualified in 1991 from Birmingham University Medical School. He has lived and worked in West Sussex since 1994 and has worked locally in general practice and medical management. He is interested in minor surgery including joint injections.

Practice Staff

Practice Manager

The Practice employs a part-time Practice Manager Donna Bird whose role it is to ensure the smooth running of the Practice and to manage all non-medical matters. As well as providing full management, financial and administrative support to the Practice, thus enabling Dr Shlosberg to concentrate on patient care, she is available to patients to advise and assist with all non-medical enquiries.

The Practice employs a team of Medical Receptionists and a Reception Supervisor. These are the first points of contact for patients who telephone or call in to the surgery. They will also deal with repeat prescriptions, message taking and any queries that may arise.

Receptionists

Our Medical Receptionists are available at all times from 8.00am-6.30pm, apart from 2.30pm onwards on a Thursday afternoon, when the Practice is closed. They are specially trained to assist you to see Dr Shlosberg or a Practice Nurse as quickly as possible.

They may ask you to describe your basic symptoms, to pass this information to Dr Shlosberg or a Practice Nurse who will assess your medical needs. However, should you prefer, you may simply request a return phone call without giving any further details. In these cases, it would be helpful if you could give some estimate of the urgency of your problem.

Please telephone our Receptionists on 01903 779924.

Practice Nurses

The Practice Nurses, led by Sue Ritchie, are based at the surgery. From a traditional role of dressings, removal of stitches, minor injuries, ear syringing, and blood tests, their work has expanded to include help with health checks, immunisation and family planning. They now take on more specialist roles too – such as the care of long-term illnesses like diabetes, asthma or heart disease. They are also available to help you stop smoking, should you wish. You can make an appointment with them directly for any of these matters.

District Nurses

Additionally, a team of District Nurses is attached to the surgery. They look after patients who need nursing help but are too ill to come to the surgery.

Health Visitor

A Health Visitor is also attached to the surgery. All families with children under the age of five who wish to contact the Health Visitor are invited to make contact through the receptionists at The Lawns.

Midwife

Dr Shlosberg and the Midwife share the care of the expectant mother. Women have the choice of attending Worthing or St Richard’s Maternity Unit for their delivery. Home births can also be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Zero Tolerance

The Practice supports the NHS policy of zero tolerance with regard to violence or abuse to the Doctors, staff or others on the Practice premises or other locations where treatment may take place. Persons abusing this policy may be reported to the police and removed from the Practice list.
